Parties enter Election fray
Except for the 33-party election alliance including the Mohan Vaidya-led CPN (M), other major parties entered the election fray. Despite continuous attempts to disturb the election, the Election Commission and the political parties kept moving ahead, and with the cooperation of the parties and the Election Commission to the government, the country was in the midst of the elections. In spite of the murder of the election candidates and obstructions in places, the parties in the fray reached among the people. This created an atmosphere for political process, which had stalled after the dissolution of the first CA, to move forward. Along with the doubts if the election would be free of fear when the 33 parties had boycotted it, there was political polarisation between those in favour and against the election to the Constitution Assembly. The possibility of new political conflict remained despite promulgation of a constitution through the Constituent Assembly.
